2024 High School State Championships
Congratulations to Jesuit, Division 1, Northwest Division 2, Memorial West Division 2A and Birdville Division 2B, the 2024 on their State Championships.
Division 1 Jesuit Rangers
Jesuit earned a trip to the USA Hockey National Championships by defeating D1 rival Allen 4-0. After defeating Allen in the round robin 3-2 on Thursday, Jesuit score twice in the 2nd and twice in the 3rd to win the D1 championship. It was a hard-fought game, but Jesuit goalie Misha Saratovtsev stooped 28 Allen shots to earn the shutout.
With the victory, Jesuit qualified for the USAH National Championships March 20-24 in Westchester, PA.
Division 2-Northwest
In a hard fought, physical game Northwest won their first D2 State Championship. Northwest came out flying and took an early lead just 2.5 minutes into the first. Frisco was able to respond and tie the score late in the first. In the second period, Frisco was the aggressor, but it was Northwest who took the lead early in the second. The game went back and forth through the 2nd and 3rd periods with Frisco outshooting Northwest 10-4 in the third. Frisco put on one last push after pulling their goalie, but Northwest was able to secure the victory with an empty net goal with 42 seconds remaining. With the victory, Northwest qualified for the USAH National Championships March 20-24 in Westchester, PA.
Division 2A Memorial West
Memorial West from the ISHL in Houston claimed the Division 2A Championship by defeating Southlake Carroll 4-1. The evenly matched teams played a scoreless first period before Memorial scored early in the second. The Dragon scored the equalizer with 8:29 remaining in the third only to have Memorial regain the lead just over a minute later. Memorial scored 2 empty net goals in the closing minutes to make it a 4-1 final. Congratulations Memorial!
Division 2B Birdville
Birdville beat Odessa in the 2B final 2-1 to capture the 2B crown. The hard-fought contest between two evenly match teams saw the first period end in a scoreless tie. Birdville took the lead in the second period with 5 minutes left only to have Odessa tie it early in the third. The teams battled hard and with just under 7 minutes left, Birdville took the lead. Odessa pulled their goalie and made a hard push to score the equalizer, but Birdville held on to claim the Championship. Congratulations Birdville.
